Bozell Wins Again @ the Zoo

Bozell Wins Again @ the Zoo

Despite starting in eighth starting position, Outlaw Super Late Model point leader Phil Bozell charged through the field and picked up his third victory of the year Saturday night at Kalamazoo Speedway.  Bozell got to second place with twenty laps to go and then took advantage of a failure by race leader Mark Shook to take the lead.  Phil then held off a late race challenge from 12-time champion and father Andy Bozell to pick up the victory.  Tom Thomas kept his championship hopes alive with a third place finish ahead of Billy Shannon and John Chapman.  Randy Day continued his recent hot streak with a sixth place finish ahead of Todd Dougherty, Trent Hellenga, Rick Sexton and Rick Senneker.  Notable finishers in the twenty car field included Adam VanAvery in 13th.  Chapman and Shannon won the heats.

Jamison Russell won a thrilling Super Stock Spectacular holding off a hard charging Buddy Head in the late laps.  The victory is the first of the season for Russell.  Eric McGlothlen finished third ahead of point leader Matt Corliss.  Kenny Head finished fifth ahead of Chris Shannon, Cory Kruzel, Matt Frazier, quick qualifier Brandon Lyons and Mickey Cornwell.

Matt Bainbridge rebounded from a couple terrible weeks to win the Modfied feature.  Tom McGhee had a strong second place finished ahead of point leader Ben Raber, Brent Hook and Dan Loughan.  Ryan Wheeler finished sixth ahead of Matt Frazier, Lindsey Katz, Clay Deplanche and quick time Mike Brooks, who was parked by track officials after hard contact with Raber under a caution flag period.

Much like Bainbridge, Pro Stock driver Toby Montogmery has had his share of rough luck in 2011 but he put that behind him Saturday night and picked up the feature victory.  John Foote Jr. made a strong return to the track with a second place finish ahead of fast qualifier Lloyd Brooks, Tyler Hufford and James Wheaton.  Zack Cook continued to improve with a sixth place finish while Shawn Misak, Ron Landis, Bryan Noble and Daton Wright.  It was a rough night for several of the point contenders as Keith Wilfong, Bob Metheny and Scott Elsey finished 11th, 12th and 14th, respectively.

Kaylee Misak picked up her second win in a row in the Cyber Stock division by defeating Lee Misak, Nick Layman, Doug Smith and Dan DenBraber.  Jerry Jansen III set quick time and finished 6th ahead of Lauryn Rousseau, Bob Miller, Bryen Pion and Cliff Lambert.
