Track Talk – March 14, 2018

Mark Shook (center) says the last couple of years have been awesome and he’s hoping the team can earn a third consecutive championship in the Outlaw Super Late Models in 2018. Shook won his first championship in 2016 and then repeated the feat in 2017. He says winning a third will be a tough challenge given the competition in the class. Shook […]

Track Talk – February 14, 2018

Speaking of the Daytona 500, the inaugural “Great American Race” was held in 1959, the year the Daytona International Speedway opened. Not to brag, but Kalamazoo Speedway has the Daytona International Speedway beat by 9 years; the Zoo running its first race in 1950. Since 1982, the 500 has been the season opener for the Cup series. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will serve as this year’s Grand Marshall, giving Junior Nation, and everyone else, an opportunity to make some noise. For [...]

The countdown has begun: 86 more days until the first open practice and we’re at 99 days and counting until the official season opener featuring the five weekly classes and the GT Products Intimidator 100. Track Talk – December 13, 2017

You’ll notice more “off nights” for each class on the 2018 racing schedule with more emphasis on the weekly classes rather than traveling series. Each class will have a night (or two) to be the star of the show with a higher purse to match the notoriety. Not only is the track’s entry level class changing its name from Flip Flop Cyber Stocks to Zoo Stocks but the directional “flip flop” is out as well. The Zoo Stocks will [...]

The official close to the 2017 season, October 28 marked the Awards Ceremony to honor drivers, teams, sponsors and employees. While everyone couldn’t be recognized with an award, Kalamazoo Speedway officials gave a shout out to everyone who helped make the 2017 a success. Gary Howe, track owner, started things off with trophies for the top eight sponsors and a few special awards. As far as Howe was concerned, he was captured in WAY too many shots and try as [...]

The FWD cars were up first (6 laps) and went caution free until the 3rd heat, finishing with 6 of the 10 heats going caution free. The RWD cars (8 laps) didn’t make it out of Heat 1 without the yellow waving and finally hit their stride by Heat 5; in the end going 6 for 11 caution free. The scoreboard [...]

Remaining campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis by checking in at the camping office located at the front gate of the Speedway. Yes, we know the sign says Super Shoe XXX instead of XXXI. But you get the idea. Pictured in the early morning sun are (from right to left) Dee Baker, her […]

No early staking is allowed so save your energy for the footrace. Campers and trailers may be placed at the campsites later that […]
