NASCAR Whelen All-American Series State Champion Will be Crowned This Saturday

In addition to the tight battle for the Kalamazoo Speedway Outlaw Super Late Model title, another title will also be locked up in this Saturday night’s Allstar Performance 100.  That title is the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Michigan State Championship title.  Currently Brian Bergakker holds a 17 point advantage over 3-time and defending state champion, Andy Bozell.  This means that if Bergakker finishes 7th or better in the Allstar Performance 100, he will be the Michigan State champion (although not necessary the Kalamazoo Speedway champion) for 2012.  The main difference in the Kalamazoo Speedway point system and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series point system is that the NASCAR system looks at feature finishers only, whereas the Kalamazoo Speedway system also considers qualifying and heat races.  This leads to the possibility of a split title, which happened last season with Phil Bozell winning the track title and father Andy winning the state title.
