Kenny Head Wins Thrilling Super Stock Spectacular; Klash Tune-Up Is Next!

Brandon Lyons made a thrilling late race charge but came up just short as Kenny Head hung on to win the “Super Stock Spectacular Presented by USA Earthworks” for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Stocks. Chris Shannon finished a solid third ahead of point leader Buddy Head and Scott Rugg. Luke Krick led the second half of the top ten over Jerry Pierman, fast qualifier Kelli Jo Hofacker, Jack Cook and Patrick Kirkendall. Shannon and Buddy Head won the Australian Pursuit races.

The “Pro Stock Open Presented by 92.5 the ZUU” produced an excellent race with John Foote Jr. holding off Brent Hook. Barry Jenkins had a very impressive third place finish beating out fast qualifier Lloyd Brooks and Budd Hybels. Former Pro Stock champion Greg Haynes finished sixth ahead of Greg Brown, Zach Westdorp, Ed Burgen and Ryan Beadle. Brown and John Bassett won the Australian Pursuits.

The Mini Stock feature saw the top two drivers in the point standings put on a thrilling race with Chuck Greer emerging victorious over point leader Jerime Damron. Chaz Hook finished third ahead of former champion Frank Stager and Logan Knight. Aaron Zimmerman led the second half of the top ten over Shane Clark, Brian Echtinaw, Noah Gallandt and fast qualifier Andrew Brest. Damron and Chaz Hook won the pursuits.

Young Keegan Dykstra continued his impressive season by picking up the victory in the twenty lap Cyber Stock feature. Bob Miller came home second beating out Kyle Jansen, fast qualifier Jerry Jansen Jr. and Josh Roberts. Brian Gregersen finished sixth ahead of Cliff Lambert, Doug Nelson, Jerry Jansen III and Drew Maxwell. Dykstra and Matt Corliss Jr. collected the pursuit victories.

The Vores Compact Touring Series was in town and brought a solid field of cars once again. Their thirty lap feature saw Todd Metz Jr. beat out Todd Metz Sr. for the victory. Chris Jennings came home third ahead of Mike Richardson and Cole Roelofs. The second half of the top ten saw William Hartman beat out Spencer Wortinger, Kyle Brigance, Kalamazoo Speedway Outlaw Super Late Model point leader Mike Brooks and James Trussell. Ron Fizzel set quick time while pursuit wins went to Ryan Hoffman, Brigance and Metz Sr. Eric Kuenstler won the ‘B’ Feature.

This Saturday night, August 9 the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models return to the Zoo to run the “Kalamazoo Klash Tune-Up Presented by Applebee’s”. This event will be a 75 lap race and pay $1,500 to win. It will be the last chance for drivers to tune-up for Wednesday, August 13th’s “Kalamazoo Klash XXII Featuring Kyle Busch”. In addition to the Outlaw Super Late Models all other weekly divisions will be in action including the Super Stocks, Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cyber Stocks.
