Kalamazoo Speedway Announces Action Packed 2018 Schedule!

Kalamazoo Speedway Announces Action Packed 2018 Schedule!

Kalamazoo Speedway will be the place to be on Friday nights when the season kicks off on April 27th. The Zoo boasts 5 weekly divisions, offering outstanding side by side racing week in and week out through August 24th when season championships are determined. September brings the fan favorite special programs.

One change for 2018 is the division names for four of our five divisions. Kalamazoo Speedway has been diligently working with 5-6 local paved short tracks to better align our weekly rules and to get all the subsequent divisions with the same division names. With the influx of tracks seeing more traveling teams and the teams doing more traveling to local tracks, this will be a win/win for the drivers, for the tracks and most importantly for the somewhat confused race fan! Very few changes will take place with the cars themselves, just a new uniform name for each of the divisions from track to track.

The only division not changing names in 2018 will be the Outlaw Super Late Models. The Outlaw Super Late Models will run 11 point paying events in 2018 plus the non-point paying Kalamazoo Klash. Several other high lap weekly events will spotlight this division, including the largest opening night race in track history. More details on that event will be announced shortly. Throw in the Lane 75 (May 25) and the Firecracker 75 (July 6) and 2018 promises to be a great year for Outlaw Super Late Model fans.

The lightning quick Late Model Sportsman (formerly Super Stocks) rival many tracks’ top division of cars and the steel bodied Street Stocks (formerly Pro Stocks) promise to offer the best hard core racing of any division in the Midwest with close to 30 drivers taking the field on any given night. For the thrills and spills of the weekly program, the Outlaw FWD’s (formerly Outlaw Cyber Stocks) show just how quick a front wheel drive car can get around the 3/8 mile high-banked oval. A fan favorite, the entry level Zoo Stock (formerly Flip Flop Cyber Stock) division introduces stock car racing to dozens of new drivers each season while entertaining fans with heads up, if not creative wheel handling. The companion “Rent-a-Ride” program was a sell-out in 2017 as scores of men and woman fulfilled lifelong dreams of an authentic racing experience.

In addition to the Friday night weekly point races, several special shows accent the season. Friday, June 30 marks the return of the always fan favorite Red, White and Boom; a night of thrills, spills & Southwest Michigan’s number one Fireworks Spectacular! The Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Winged Super Sprint Series returns to the Zoo on June 1, running alongside the Late Models Sportsman and three of the other weekly divisions.

Following Season Championship night on August 24 the schedule switches to Saturday night. The ever popular Call of the Wild kicks off the September special programs and the legendary Night of Destruction (September 15) promises to be even better this year. The 32nd annual Super Shoe Nationals will round out the season on September 28-September 30.
