John Long became the fourth different winner in the first five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Model features of the season at Kalamazoo Speedway on Saturday night. Long set quick time of the twenty-three cars on the property and had to start deep in the field for the fifty lap feature. He methodically worked his way through traffic and took the lead late in the event from Mark Shook, who would eventually retire and finish 18th. Point leader Mike “Bubba” Brooks finished second ahead of Cory Pressler, Todd Harrington and John Chapman. The second half of the top ten was led by Luke Krick over Jamison Russell, AJ Foote, Matt Frazier and Chuck Greer. Last week’s feature winner Rick Senneker also retired early and finished a disappointing 19th. Brooks point lead now sits at 71 points ahead of Chapman with Foote (-110), Krick (-126) and Harrington (-127) rounding out the top five.

Nineteen Super Stocks took to the track Saturday with Buddy Head once again setting quick time. Buddy started deep in the field for the thirty-five lap feature but still emerged victorious over his brother Kenny, who finished second. Rodney Smith made his first appearance of the season and finished a solid third ahead of Chris Shannon and Scott Rugg. Kelli Jo Hofacker took the checkered flag in sixth beating out Rodney Spencer, Patrick Kirkendall, Rob Hardy and Jerry Pierman. Notable finishers included Jordan Hunderman, who finished a lap down in 15th.

The Pro Stocks ran the “Pro Stock Rumble Presented by Cool 101” and continued their streak of thrilling the crowd with exciting racing. Defending champion John Foote Jr. picked up the victory over fast qualifier Toby Montgomery, veteran Brent Hook, Budd Hybels and young Ryan Beadle. The second half of the top ten was led by Keith Wilfong over Zach Westdorp, Greg Brown, Barry Jenkins and Chad Wilkins. Notable finishers included former champion Lloyd Brooks, who finished 14th. The top four drivers in the points are now all within just 75 points with Montgomery leading the way over Foote Jr. (-26), Hook (-32) and Lloyd Brooks (-75)

Chuck Greer came out on top of an intense Mini Stock feature holding off Logan Knight for the victory. Greer and Knight were the last place and next to last place starters on the grid but worked their way through the field for a 1-2 finish. Billy Bussema wound up third ahead of point leader Jerime Damron and former Cyber Stock champion Keith Dunham. Chaz Hook led the second half of the top ten over Brian Echtinaw, Todd Metz Sr., Garry Hale and Shane Clark. Noah Gallandt entered the evening third in points but was involved in an accident and finished 11th. Greer also set quick time and won his heat race, while Bussema picked up the win in the other heat. The Mini Stocks now see an incredible eight drivers within just 151 points, led by Damron over Dunham (33). Greer’s perfect night now moves him to third, just 68 markers back and ahead of Bussema (-71), Gallandt (-78), Clark (-105), former champion Frank Stager (-138) and Knight (-151).

Fast qualifier Jerry Jansen Jr. set quick time, started dead last, and picked up the victory in the twenty lap Cyber Stock feature. Dion Vrooman finished an impressive second ahead of Cliff Lambert, Keegan Dykstra and Drew Maxwell. Doug Nelson finished sixth beating out Matt Majewski, Ryan Hufford, Brian Gregersen and TC Burgess. Notable finishers included Bob Miller in 12th, Dan Rigoni in 13th and Kyle Jansen in 16th. Heat race wins went to Dykstra and Maxwell. Jansen Jr.’s point lead is now 75 points ahead of Dykstra with Lambert (-120), Hufford (-140) and Burgess (-157) rounding out the top five.

This weekend will be the first double header weekend of the year at Kalamazoo Speedway! First on Saturday, May 24 race fans will get to witness another full five in one show featuring the “Lane 75” for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models. This will be a 75 lap, $1,500 to win event for the Zoo’s premier division. Fans will get to see if the division can produce a fifth different winner before Memorial Day. Also on the ticket will be the Super Stocks, Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cyber Stocks. After the races, there will be a pit party featuring the Dani Jamerson Band. All fans and teams are invited to attend the FREE party following what promises to be another thrilling evening of racing.

Then on Sunday, May 25 the 2014 Kalamazoo Speedway Enduro season kicks off with the running of the “Veterans 200 Presented by Steensma”. In addition to the 200 lap Enduro fans will also get to witness the Vores Compact Touring Series, who will make their first ever visit to the Zoo. The series will kick the evening off with heat races at 6:30. The Enduro will take place following the Vores Compact Touring Series main event and the on track action for the evening will then conclude with the fan favorite Powder Puff event. Kalamazoo Speedway will then light up the sky with the first Fireworks display of the 2014 season.
