Bergakker Wins Edelbrock 50, Gains More Points on Brooks

Brian Bergakker picked the win in the Edelbrock 50 for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models Saturday night at Kalamazoo Speedway but more importantly he closed to within just four points of point leader and second place finisher Mike “Bubba” Brooks in the battle for the 2013 championship.  Brooks made a late charge at Bergakker knowing the point’s situation but came up just short.  Rick Senneker finished third ahead of Mark Shook and Brandon Lyons.  John Chapman led he seconds half of the top ten over Billy Shannon, Bill Tomlinson, Matt Frazier and Luke Krick.  Bergakker also set quick time while Brooks and Frazier picked up the evening’s heat race victories.

The Super Stock Spectacular Presented by 92.5 the ZUU saw a thrilling finished with point leader Buddy Head emerging victorious over Eric McGlothlen, who made his first appearance of the season.  Cory Kruzel finished third ahead of Ryan Wheeler and Kelli Jo Hofacker.  The second half of the top ten was led by Rodney Smith over Darren Lane, Chris Orr, Chris Shannon and Lindsey Katz.  Notable finishers included fast qualifier Kenny Head, who finished 18th and saw his championship hopes take a huge hit.  Buddy Head now takes a 104 point lead into season championship night over his brother Kenny.

Another exciting Pro Stock feature saw fast qualifier Toby Montgomery pick up the victory.  Bud Hybels, Brent Hook, Tom Wright and Ryan Beadle completed the top five finishers.  Danny Oxford led the second half of the top ten over Jim Leonard, Ron Chaffee, Rob Ruimveld and point leader John Foote Jr.  Notable finishers included early race leader Brad VanAvery, who suffered a mechanical failure and finished 11th.  VanAvery did pick up a heat race win, as did Foote Jr.  Five drivers mathematically enter Season Championship night with a shot at leaving with the Pro Stock championship trophy.  Foote’s point lead has been cut to 62 points over Montgomery with Hook (-70), VanAvery (-106) and Hybels (-131) all being mathematically eligible to still win the crown.

Dave Long not only won the Mini Stock feature Saturday night he clinched the 2013 Kalamazoo Speedway Mini Stock championship in the process.  Jeremy Collins finished seconds ahead of teammate Shane Clark while Doug Smith and Chaz Hook rounded out the top five.  Noah Gallandt led the second half of the top ten over Joel Ritsema, Keith Dunham, Rick Mann Sr. and Curtis Towne.  Long also set quick time while Clark and Collins won the heat races.

Cyber Stock Mania Presented by Renegade saw fast qualifier Jerry Jansen Jr. pick up the biggest payday of the season for the Cyber Stocks by defeating Josh Roberts, point leader Jack Cook, Dale Leonard and Tyler McGhan.  Championship contender Barry Jenkins finished sixth ahead of Felicia Meade, Jerry Jansen III, Allie Hufford and Walter Nielson IV.  Cook enters the season’s final event just 17 points ahead of Jenkins in the battle for the Cyber Stock championship.

This Saturday night, August 31 the 2013 Kalamazoo Speedway regular season concludes with Season Championship night for all five divisions featuring the “Allstar Performance 100 Presented by Lane Automotive” for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models.  Mike “Bubba” Brooks enters the event JUST FOUR points ahead of defending champion Brian Bergakker in the battle for the Outlaw Super Late Model championship.  100 laps stand between these two men and one trophy.  The Super Stocks, Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cyber Stocks will also be in action with Super Stocks, Pro Stocks and Cyber Stocks still needing to decide their champions as well.

Then on Sunday, September 1 the Kalamazoo Speedway Enduro Series returns to action with their third event of 2013, the Kalamazoo Klassic 200 Presented by McDonald’s Towing.  Drivers expected to challenge for the victory include point leader Corey Miechiels, Dave Miller, Don Simmons Sr., Harold Bloomer, Jeff Cauffman and several others.  In addition to the 200 lap enduro the evening will also see Spectator Drags and a Powder Puff Enduro.
