Bergakker Holds Off 12-Time to Win Sun Drop 50 @ the Zoo

Brian Bergakker charged from outside the top ten to the lead and then held off 12-time champion Andy Bozell to win Saturday night’s Sun Drop 50 for the Outlaw Super Late Models.   Rick Senneker had a very strong third place run holding off defending champion Phil Bozell for third place.  Billy Shannon, Randy Chupp, Trent Hellenga, Mike Brooks, Luke Kick and Matt Bainbridge completed the top ten.  Hellenga was the quickest of the 22 qualifiers while Randy Day and Krick won the heat races.

Super Stock Mania presented by Sweet Manufacturing proved to be a thrilling event with Chris Shannon narrowly holding off a hard charging Kenny Head for the victory.  Tom Rutherford, Jake Hopwood and quick qualifier Brandon Lyons rounded out the top five.  Matt Frazier, Matt Corliss, Ryan Wheeler, Ron Hughson and Lindsey Katz finished sixth through tenth.  Matt Elsey won the Last Chance race.

Lloyd Brooks remained perfect in 2012 with a win in the Pro Stock Spring Fling 35 presented by AT&T.  Brooks also set quick time which means through two events he has picked up every possible point.  Travis Hall came from dead last to finish second ahead of Tyler Hufford, Ron Landis and Keith Wilfong.  Randy Simmons headed up the second half of the top ten beating out Bryan Noble, John Bassett, Christina Rantz and Shawn Misak.

Billy Bussema set quick time and went on to win the Mini Stock feature.  Frank Stager finished second ahead of George Watts, Andrew Brest and Noah Gallandt.

Jerry Jansen III won an action packed Cyber Stock feature beating Wayne Stack to the line on the final lap.  Jerry Jansen Jr. finished third beating out Barry Jenkins and Dale Leonard.  Notable finishers include Jack Cook, who finished a disappointing 17th.  Leonard also set quick time.

With both events so far drawing over 100 race cars the action promises to continue next week at Kalamazoo Speedway.  The Outlaw Super Late Models highlight the program with the “Raceceiver 50”.  The Cyber Stocks will also have their first special of the season with the running of the “Cyber Stock Goat Roper 25 presented by Scott’s Cards.”  Super Stocks, Pro Stocks and Mini Stocks will also all be in action at the fastest 3/8 mile in the world.  Tickets are just $12 for adults, $8 for 10-15 year olds and FREE for kids.  Racing action begins at 7:00.  For more information visit www.kalamazoospeedway.com.
