Last Chance(s): After qualifying, all cars not locked in will be split into either one or two Last Chance events.  If there are 32 cars or less, there will be one Last Chance race and the top four finishers will advance.  If there are 33 cars or more, there will be odd and even last chance races.  The top four finishers from each last chance race will advance to the Klash.

Simplified Pro Stock Bash Race Format/Rules

The qualifying order will be the determined by the speeds in the final Pro Stock Bash practice session.  The slowest car in the final practice will qualify first, while the fastest car in the final practice session will qualify last.  If a car does not compete in the final practice session it will be the first car to qualify.  If multiple cars do not compete in the final practice their order will be determined by a blind draw.  If any car does not qualify in the position they are scheduled to, they will lose one lap of qualifying.  If there is a tie in qualifying to the thousandth of a second, the tie breaker will be the car higher in the current Kalamazoo Speedway Pro Stock point standings.  If the tie is still not broken the next tie breaker will be the faster car from the final practice session.  The final tie breaker will be a coin flip (2 drivers) or blind draw (3 drivers).

50 laps – two segments of 30 laps & 20 laps, with a short break between the two segments.  During the break the race leader will pull a pill for the inversion.  The pills to pull from will be 6-1’s, 5-2’s, 4-3’s, 3-4’s, 2-5’s and 1-6.

All Double File restarts, even in the Last Chance races. The leader will choose their lane and the second place car will fill the other position on the front row.  Starting with 3rd place on back odd numbered positions will line up on the inside and even numbered positions will line up on the outside.  In the event there is a car being sent to the tail, a lucky dog and a car coming out of the pits, they will be lined up in that order.

Tire rule will unsoaked and unaltered 8” Hoosier treaded tires 970’s-970R’s-880’s-800’s or 790’s.  Four Race Tires Only-you will race on the four tires you qualify on.

Raceceiver’s are mandatory.  They will be available for rent at the track for $60.

The top running eligible lapped car at each caution (and at the 30 lap break) will receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass”.  A car is not eligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” when, in judgment of the officials, 1) The car caused the caution 2) The car was in the pit area when the caution came out or 3) The car has been penalized with a discretionary call.  In the case of a discretionary penalty, it will be made known to the competitor, at the time the discretionary penalty is imposed, that the car will not be eligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” to make up the penalized lap(s).  Transferring the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” will only occur when the first eligible car becomes ineligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” because of a discretionary penalty, because the car pitted under the caution or because the first eligible car is not in competition at the time the yellow flag is displayed.  Then the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” will be transferred to the next eligible car.

2013 Pit Stall Information

Mark Shook

Attention Weekly Drivers & Race Teams:

If you choose to rent a reserved Pit Stall for the 2013 season, you will have until January 12th to reserve your pit spots that you had paid for last season.  Starting on the 14th, all reserved pit spots will be up for grabs for the upcoming season.  You can call the speedway office at 269-692-2423 or e-mail me at gary@kalamazoospeedway.com   to reserve your pit spots.  The prices will remain the same as they have been for the last 12 seasons…..$100 for the main infield & $50 for the top or third pits (which does not include Super Shoe).  As always, there are a ton of paved spots that all have electric, so renting a pit spot is not a priority, unless you want the same spot each week or you choose to park with a group of other race teams.

Kalamazoo Speedway “New Pit Policies” for 2013

Rick Senneker

Rick Senneker

Emotions are very much a part of short track racing as are heated tempers in the pits after on track incidents take place.  However, with this being said, Kalamazoo Speedway is announcing two new policies that will cater to the safety & wellbeing of every person in our very tight pit area.  We are pleading with our fans to come into the pit areas during or especially after the races…….we can no longer subject our fans to a bunch of foul language or fighting after our racing concludes.

Speeding in the Pits

Any car that is deemed by speedway officials as going too fast in the pit area will be handled with as such:

  • If the speeding violation is deemed minimal, a onetime warning will be given to the driver.
  • If the speeds appear to be at an unsafe speed deemed by speedway officials, that driver will be notified immediately that for the remainder of that day’s events as well as the next three events where that driver is participating at Kalamazoo Speedway, that driver will shut off their car and stop in the make ready chute before their car reaches two orange cones (that will be placed in a safe location for the said car to stop at) and their car will then be pushed by hand back to the pits by their crew.

Leaving Your Pit Spot During an Altercation In the Pit Area of any Kind

At any time while on Kalamazoo Speedway property, any person in a restricted pit area will be expected to follow the rules & behave in an orderly & safe fashion.   During any racing altercation on the track, the driver, their crew, the car owner, the spouse or any other person in the pits is expected to follow the following rules:

  • When an altercation occurs on the track all people associated with any car in the pits will 100% stay in your own pit area.  No member of that team is allowed to go and talk to another driver or member of that driver’s team until 5 minutes after the completion of the event.
  • If the other team is close to your pit area, you will be expected to act in a professional manor; you will keep your mouth shut & not be yelling & screaming at the other team or driver.
  • No team member will leave their pit area to go and confront another person in the pits at any time, until the 5 minute cool down period has taken place.  This means No Drivers will get out of their car & march directly over to another driver to have a heated talk….None whatsoever!!!
  • After the 5 minute cool down period has elapsed, the driver by themselves can then find a uniformed pit steward and together can go and talk with another driver.  No team members will be going along with the driver……this will be the two drivers talking it over by themselves.
  • A warning will be given the first time for a minor infraction; however failure to follow these rules may result in a loss of money and or points for that event or a suspension from the track for a decided period of time.  If the first time infraction deems not to be minor, the first time infraction will go directly to loss of money & points and suspensions!!

Kalamazoo Speedway 13_04_06

Brian Bergakker became the first two time winner in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models at Kalamazoo Speedway on Saturday night.  Bergakker participated in a spirited duel with fast qualifier Tyler Roahrig, which saw them start side by side on several of the double file restarts.  At one point Roahrig even took the lead but the defending champ was able to wrestle it back from the youngster and hold on for the victory.  Billy Shannon used a late race restart to grab second place from Roahrig, who held on to finish third.  JR Roahrig finished fourth ahead of 12-time champion Andy Bozell who drove the Greg Cady owned car to a fifth place finish.  2011 champion Phil Bozell finished sixth ahead of Luke Krick, Mark Shook, AJ Foote and Rick Senneker.  The point standings took a huge turn as Mike “Bubba” Brooks struggled to a 14th place finish and point leader Jeff Ganus was involved in a scary crash the relegated him to 21st.  Bergakker now jumps all the way to the top of the standings but is only eleven points ahead of Brooks.  Ganus’s accident drops him all the way to third, but only seventeen points from the lead.  Shannon (-84), Shook (-126) and Krick (-135) sit fourth through sixth in the standings heading into next Saturday’s “Steensma 50”.

The battle of the Head brothers was the story of the Super Stock feature, with Buddy coming out victorious over Kenny.  Chris Shannon finished a solid third ahead of Ryan Wheeler and Tyler Hufford.  Kelli Jo Hofacker was sixth ahead of last week’s winner Ben Beeler, Jordan Hunderman, former champion Matt Corliss and Darren Lane.  Buddy now leads Kenny by just 25 points in the championship battle.  Hofacker (-87), Lane (-91), Shannon (-112), Hufford (-136) and Hunderman (-154) are in striking distance should the Head brothers encounter problems.

The Pro Stock feature saw Toby Montgomery come out on top over defending champion Lloyd Brooks, Brad VanAvery, Bud Hybels and Brent Hook.  Keith Wilfong finished sixth ahead of Greg Brown, Nick DeLongpre, Steven Roden and Ashley Markillie.  Notable finishers included John Foote Jr. in 13th.  Montgomery also ran the fastest qualifying lap of the evening and won a heat race for a “max points” event.  Hybels won the other heat.  VanAvery now leads Montgomery by just 36 points.  Hybels (-37), Foote Jr. (-43), Hook (-51), Travis Hall (-131), Brooks (-151) and Jerry Pierman (-160) sit third through eighth in the standings heading into this Saturday’s Pro Stock Cash Bash Presented by Best Way Disposal.

A very exciting Mini Stock feature saw Billy Bussema come out on top over Dave Long in late race battle.  Jeremy Collins finished third ahead of fast qualifier Jerime Damron and defending champion Frank Stager.  Shane Clark was sixth beating out Chaz Hook, Wayne Stack, Doug Smith and Noah Gallandt.  Notable finishers included Dennis Zimmerman in13th.  Collins and Zimmerman won the heat races.  Long now holds a slim three point lead over Damron in the battle for the Mini Stock championship.  Clark is now third, 59 points behind while Hook (-81), Collins (-111), Zimmerman (-140) and Gallandt (-159) all still have visions of winning the title.

Jerry Jansen III came out on top of the twenty lap Cyber Stock feature, holding off Jack Cook for the victory.  Dion Vrooman finished third ahead of Tyler McGhan and point leader Barry Jenkins.  Walter Neilson IV finished sixth beating out fast qualifier Jerry Jansen Jr., Brian Gregersen, Brandon Hoffman and Matt Majewski.  Jansen III and Keegan Dykstra won the heats.  Jenkins point lead is now 57 over Cook.  Nielson IV (-68), McGhan (-72), Vrooman (-97) and Jansen III (-99) all remain with 100 points of the lead.

Next on the schedule is the Veterans 200 Enduro Presented by Allstar Performance.  The event rolls off at 7:00 today, Sunday May 26.  In addition to the 200 lap main event will be the fan favorite Spectator Drags, as well as a Powder Puff Enduro and Fireworks!

This Saturday, June 1st will see the first appearance of 2013 for the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series.  A good field of the ultra-fast sprinters is expected for this event.  In addition to the Super Sprints, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Outlaw Super Late Models will be in action, running the “Steensma 50”.  Three drivers sit within just 17 points of each other in the battle for the title.  Also the Pro Stocks will be in action, running the Pro Stock Cash Bash Presented by Best Way Disposal.  For more information on Kalamazoo Speedway visit www.kalamazoospeedway.com.
