Due to extremely cold temperatures Kalamazoo Speedway officials have announced that the testing session originally scheduled for today has been postponed until Friday, April 26.  The temperature has not gotten as high today as several forecasts showed it would, so with a 20 degree warmup expected in the next two days, track officials thought this was the best decision for all parties involved.  Stay tuned to www.kalamazoospeedway.com for more information.

Kalamazoo Speedway officials have announced that an additional Pre-Season Test Session has been added to the schedule and will take place this Wednesday, April 24th from 5:30-8:30.  Pit gates will open at 5:00 for the session.  Grandstand admission will be FREE and pit passes will be just $20.  For more information on Kalamazoo Speedway visit www.kalamazoospeedway.com.

NASCAR Licenses are NOT Required for this event.

How the Intimidator 100 Field will be Set:

24 cars or less - all in the A Feature

25 or more cars – Top 18 locked in from qualifying – the top 4 from the Last Chance transfer to the A Feature

Intimidator 100 Race Format/Rules:

• The qualifying order will be the determined by the speeds in the Intimidator 100 practice session.  The slowest driver in the practice will qualify first, while the fastest car in the practice session will qualify last.  If a car does not compete in the practice session it will be the first car to qualify.  If multiple cars do not compete in the practice their order will be determined by a blind draw.  If any car does not qualify in the position they are scheduled to, they will lose one lap of qualifying.  If there is a tie in qualifying to the thousandth of a second, the tie breaker will be the car higher in the 2012 Kalamazoo Speedway Outlaw Super Late Model point standings.  If the tie is still not broken the next tie breaker will be the faster car from the practice session.  The final tie breaker will be a coin flip (2 drivers) or blind draw (3 or more drivers).
• The top running eligible lapped car at each caution will receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass”.  A car is not eligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” when, in judgment of the officials, 1) The car caused the caution 2) The car was in the pit area when the caution came out or 3) The car has been penalized with a discretionary call.  In the case of a discretionary penalty, it will be made known to the competitor, at the time the discretionary penalty is imposed, that the car will not be eligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” to make up the penalized lap(s).  Transferring the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” will only occur when the first eligible car becomes ineligible to receive the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” because of a discretionary penalty, because the car pitted under the caution or because the first eligible car is not in competition at the time the yellow flag is displayed.  Then the “Lucky Dog Free Pass” will be transferred to the next eligible car.  There will not be a lucky dog on a “false start”.
• 100 laps  –  Tire rule will be the Hoosier 970R
• All Double File restarts with lead lap cars to the front, even in the Last Chance race. The leader will choose their lane and the second place car will fill the other position on the front row.  Starting with 3^rd place on back odd numbered positions will line up on the inside and even numbered positions will line up on the outside.  In the event there is a car being sent to the tail, a lucky dog and a car coming out of the pits, they will be lined up in that order.

Every year the season opener has been run as a Nascar sanctioned race. This has caused problems with race teams that call another track home. So this year, Kalamazoo Speedway owner Gary Howe has decided to make our season opener a non- NASCAR point night. This will allow teams to race the highbanks of the Zoo without having a NASCAR license for that night. Track points will still accrue and the insurance carrier for the event will be Naughton Insurance, which Is Kalamazoo Speedway’s insurance carrier.

For the second consecutive weekend John Long set the fastest speed in Pre-Season Testing at Kalamazoo Speedway, topping the charts with a lap of 12.768 seconds at over 105 mph.  Long was over two tenths of a second faster than the second fastest car of Luke Krick.  Mike “Bubba” Brooks was third fastest ahead of Tyler Roahrig and defending Outlaw Super Late Model champion Brian Bergakker.  Jeff Ganus hit the track for the first time this season and was sixth fastest ahead of Doug True, Todd Harrington, 12-time champion Andy Bozell and his brother Jeff Bozell.

In the ultra-competitive Super Stock division Buddy Head was fastest for the second weekend in a row with a lap of 13.843 seconds.  He was only three one hundredths of a second faster than Lindsey Katz, who was second fastest.  Chris Shannon was third quick ahead of defending champ Kenny Head and Justin Dinzik.  Rounding out the top ten were Kelli Jo Hofacker, 2011 champion Matt Corliss, 1989 Outlaw Super Late Model champion Chris Orr, Ryan Wheeler and Tyler Hufford.

Brad VanAvery was the fastest Pro Stock on the property on Sunday turning a 14.898 second lap.  2009 Modified champion Brent Hook was second ahead of Greg Brown, Ron Landis and Kenny Head, who filled in for Keith Wilfong.

Not to be upstaged by his father, youngster Chaz Hook was the quickest Mini Stock in testing with a 14.907 second lap.  Hook topped defending champion Frank Stager and 1999 Super Stock champion Steve Potter, who were second and third on the charts.  Teammates Shane Clark and Jeremy Collins completed the top five.

Newcomer Richard Peck was the fastest of all Cyber Stocks during the final Pre-Season Test.  Peck’s lap of 16.265 seconds was .093 seconds faster than Jack Cook, who was second.  Tyler McGhan, Allie Huffird and Keegan Dykstra rounded out the top five.

This Saturday, April 20 will be opening night 2013 featuring the Intimidator 100 presented by Boyne Machine for the Outlaw Super Late Models.  A solid field of travelers are expected to challenge the Kalamazoo Speedway regulars for the opening night victory.  Among the expected contenders are defending champion Brian Bergakker, John Long, Luke Krick, Mike Brooks, Tyler Roahrig, Jeff Ganus, Doug True, Mark Shook, Billy Shannon, Rick Senneker and many others.  In addition to the Intimidator 100, all other divisions will also kick off their seasons.

Starting the 2013 season off with a bang will be the always popular, action packed Intimidator 100, featuring the Outlaw Super Late Models.  The Intimidator 100 will be full of familiar drivers, as well as several new teams for 2013. Who will be crowned the Intimidator for the 2013 season; could it be one of the new hi-profile teams who are calling Kalamazoo Speedway their home this season?  There are several cagy veterans, such as Brian Bergakker, Mark Shook, Jeff Bozell, Billy Shannon, Bubba Brooks, Todd Harrington and a sleuth of other hot drivers returning  to the Zoo who are betting against that!!?

The Super Stock class will prove to be the strongest class at the Kalamazoo Speedway as well as one of the strongest classes in the entire Midwest!   Kenny Head will return and contend for back to back championships, although drivers like Chris Shannon, Chris Orr, Darren Lane, Lindsey Katz, Ryan Wheeler & Kelli Jo Hofacker will be there all season long to contend for numerous wins!  With the strong car count expected for this class, who knows what the outcome could end up being?  June 12^th will bring back the 2^nd annual Super Stock Klash……one of the hottest new races to hit the area tracks in many years! 

The Pro Stocks could very well be Kalamazoo Speedway’s sleeper division this year, with as many as 8-10 new weekly teams have pre-registered for the 2013 season!   Last year, Lloyd Brooks walked away with the championship…….this year, drivers such as Tyler Hufford, Keith Wilfong, Brent Hook, Zack Cook & Greg Haynes will do their best not to make life quite so easy for Mr. Brooks in 2013!

Frank Stager returns to the Zoo to defend his 2012 Mini Stock track title.  But with all the young talent in the class like Chaz Hook and Noah Gallant, that may not be so easy.   Also hungry for a win are the old guys such as Donnie Brest and Doug Smith.  Moving up into the mini stock division is Anna Haynes, as this young lady is looking to challenge the guys for the spot in victory lane.  Several well established new teams from various area tracks are looking to take home some Kalamazoo Speedway hardware & cash as well!!

As always, the Cyber stocks will be full of some of the wildest action on the track!  With upwards of 35 of these FWD bandits showing up on any given night, we aren’t sure how clean our freshly painted walls will stay looking nice once the green flag flies for this class!!  Come out and see the youngsters, as well as the older guys compete for the win, with standouts such as Jerry Jansen, Jack Cook, Barry Jenkins, Brian Gregerson, the Nielson boys & Mark Campbell!   Cyber Stock Nationals will be held on August 3^rd, featuring the fan favorite Big Wheel and Bicycle Races.

Every year the Kalamazoo Speedway hosts several fan favorite marquee races such as the Kalamazoo Klash, the Super Shoe Nationals, the Call of the Wild as well as the always popular Night of Destruction!!  Plan on calling Kalamazoo Speedway your family friendly Saturday Night Entertainment Hot Spot for the 2013 racing season at the Zoo!!

John Long was the fastest car on the property at the first Pre-Season test of the season at Kalamazoo Speedway.  Long ran a lap of 12.946 seconds at 104.279mph to top the charts.  Mark Shook was second fastest ahead of former Modified champion, Mike “Bubba” Brooks, Dick Bissett and defending champion Brian Bergakker.  Jeff Bozell was sixth fastest while Rick Senneker, Todd Currier, Randy Day and Billy Shannon rounded out the top ten. 

The Super Stock division saw the Head brothers at the top of the charts with Buddy beating out his brother Kenny for the day’s fastest speed.  Chris Shannon was third ahead of Chris Orr and Jake Hopwood.  Ryan Wheeler was sixth beating out Jordan Hunderman, Tyler Hufford, Rob Hardy and Gary Denzel.

Brian Noble’s lap of 14.645 seconds was the fastest of all Pro Stock drivers.  “Big Papa” Keith Wilfong was second ahead of former Enduro driver Greg Brown.  Dustin Uminn and Felicia Meade rounded out the top five.

Defending Mini Stock champion Frank Stager was fastest in testing despite spinning out at one point.  Shane Clark was second fastest ahead of veteran driver Donnie Brest.  Jeremy Collins and Noah Gallandt completed the top five in Mini Stock testing.

In the Cyber Stock division Jerry Jansen was the fastest in his number 94 machine.  Brian Gregerson was second fastest ahead of Barry Jenkins.  The Neilson’s came in fourth and fifth with Walter IV topping Walter III. 

Next Saturday will be the final Pre-Season test before opening night featuring the Intimidator 100 for the Outlaw Super Late Models.  Pit gates will open at noon with practice running from 1:00-5:00.  Grandstand admission will be FREE and pit passes will be just $20.  Stay tuned to www.kalamazoospeedway.com for more information on the 2013 season.

A big thank you from Gary and Donna Howe goes out to everyone who came to the board meeting to support the track during the Alamo Township Noise Ordinance Meetings.  By now, most of you have heard the noise ordinance was voted down on Monday at the last meeting.  Thank you citizens of Alamo Township, Kalamazoo Speedway fans and Little Kalamazoo Speedway supporters for coming to the meetings or sending letters of support.  We were thrilled to shut down one meeting and go over capacity for another.  In celebration of no noise ordinance come out to the track and enjoy “Alamo Township Night at the Kalamazoo Speedway” on April 27^th.  Bring your voter ID or property tax statement for FREE admission!

Kalamazoo Speedway wishes to extend their deepest sympathy to the family & friends of Wayne Culver, who passed last night on 4-16-13.  Wayne leaves behind his wife, Barb, as well as his son Brandon and two grand kids, MaKenna & Georgia.  Wayne was an active participant as well as a car owner for many years at both Kalamazoo & Galesburg Speedway.   Wayne’s love & admiration for the sport of stock car racing will be deeply missed at all of the area short tracks!  Funeral arrangement will be posted as we get notice from the family.
