Needles Outduels 12-Time in Thrilling Intimidator 100 Finish
Steve Needles and Andy Bozell put on a thrilling late battle that saw Needles come out on top in Saturday night’s Intimidator 100 at Kalamazoo Speedway. JR Roahrig finished a strong third ahead of Tom Thomas and defending champion Phil Bozell, who pitted several times. Adam Terry had a very impressive sixth place run beating out Trent Hellenga, Randy Chupp (who won the Last Chance), Billy Shannon and Jeff Bozell. Tyler Roahrig was quickest of the 32 Outlaw Super Late Models in qualifying.
Brandon Lyons drove through the field and then made a daring pass on Matt Frazier to win the Super Stock feature. Kenny Head had his second consecutive strong opening night with a second place finish ahead of quick qualifier Tom Rutherford, Chris Shannon and Jake Hopwood. Cory Kruzel was sixth ahead of Darren Lane, Josh Trammell, Cole Allers and Kyle VanSparrentek. Dale Lancaster won the Last Chance race.
Lloyd Brooks set quick time and came from deep in the pack to win the Pro Stock Feature over Tyler Hufford, Randy Simmons, Ron Landis and Jim Wheaton. Travis Hall finished sixth beating out Keith Wilfong, Christina Rantz, Daton Wright and Greg Haynes.
Bobby Stremme, brother of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Stremme, won the feature for the newly formed Mini Stock division. Ben McCallum was second ahead of Jeremy Collins, Frank Stager and fast qualifier Eric Frazier. Defending Cyber Stock champion Doug Smith was sixth ahead of Billy Bussema, Andrew Brest, Allen Tink and George Watts.
Jerry Jansen Jr. held off a hard charging Tristan Crago to win a side-by-side finish to the Cyber Stock feature. Barry Jenkins had a strong third place run ahead of Dale Leonard and Wayne Stack. Fast qualifier Jack Cook was sixth ahead of Logan Knight, Doug Nelson, Maggie Zwart and Nick Delongpre. Lauryn Rousseau won the ‘B’ Feature.
Next Saturday the season continues with another 5 in 1 show featuring the Steensma Lawn & Power Equipment 50 for the Outlaw Super Late Models. The Super Stocks also return with Super Stock Mania presented by Sweet Manufacturing. The race will be a 40 lap, $750 to win event. Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cyber Stocks will also return.
